Carbon Neutral Fuels joins Bioenergy Australia as it advances first Australian project

We're excited to announce we've joined Bioenergy Australia, the country's peak bioenergy industry body, a big step as we get stuck into our first project Down Under.
It follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Energy Estate to explore a bioSAF (bio-based sustainable aviation fuel) project in Queensland, powered by captured sugarcane waste.
Back in 2018, ARENA's Bioenergy Roadmap (developed with Enea Consulting and Deloitte Australia) singled out sugarcane waste and livestock feedstocks as some of the country's best regional bioenergy opportunities, with the potential to create jobs and new revenue streams for farmers well beyond the cities.
Australia's got the raw materials for this in spades. CSIRO's 2023 SAF Roadmap projects Australian biomass could meet half the country's SAF needs by 2050. Right now, though, Australia's still building towards scale... no large SAF facility has reached a final investment decision yet.
It's clear there's work to do to bring the whole sector along. Bioenergy Australia's National Feedstock Roundtable in Canberra this August found that 62% of participants feel they don't know enough about feedstocks. That's exactly the kind of gap we're hoping our membership can help close.
Queensland sits alongside our growing international pipeline, including Project Kestrel, a 4x scale-up of our flagship UK project Project Starling, being developed in Teesside, a Scottish marine facility, plus early-stage work in the EU and Canada.
